ONE HIT WONDERS is a juggernaut 18-track playlist of devised solo performances that dissects the intersection between text, movement, and our collective memory of 1980s nostalgia. Presented by third year Bachelor of Creative Arts (Theatre) students, ONE HIT WONDERS is an audiovisual feast for you to sink your teeth into – chomp down hard, because it is a meaty city we’ve all built. A postdramatic work where the storyline can be found in the miles of tulle, taffeta and tunes. These are characters and stories we have built from the ground up; who we are now, who we were then and who will we become. From sparkle-dusted 80s glamour to the rotting decay of pop culture, put on your red shoes and let’s dance! Please come along and champion this cohort as we launch out of this world and into tomorrow (or yesterday)!
Director, Emma Saunders is an Australian dance artist who works as a dancer, curator, choreographer, and director. She graduated with a BA in Dance and Grad Dip Ed (Dance/Drama) from the University of Western Sydney in 1996. She is interested in the simplicity of dance and the complexity of choreography. Utilising a visceral, instinctive attack, her work is immediate, often working with humour, everyday movements, text, repetition, deconstruction, duration and abstraction. Emma is a co-founding member of award winning Sydney based dance trio The Fondue Set. With The Fondue Set, Emma co created and performed in over eight full length dance works including award winning NO SUCCESS LIKE FAILURE. Emma currently lectures in Performance Making at the University of Wollongong, and is 2018/2019 Associate Artist at NORPA, Lismore. Recently, she has been commissioned by FORM Dance Projects, Parramatta Riverside Theatres to develop a new large scale, site-specific dance work for 2018.
