Museum of Applied Arts & Sciences (MAAS), Sydney
The title of this year’s graduate exhibition, SCOPE, evokes the breadth and complexity of students’ creative vision and explorations across the Bachelor of Creative Arts in the Visual and Media Arts, Graphic Design, and the Visual Arts and Design (VAD) double major.
The SCOPE of visual richness and emotional power highlights a broad spectrum of new works that reflect diverse approaches to materials, processes and technologies across different studios and disciplines. For the first time in 2017, students in the Visual Arts & Design major are presenting interdisciplinary works that integrate multiplicity of art and design forms, transcending disciplinary boundaries. The Visual Arts exhibits a multiplicity of creative, conceptual and material processes within textiles, sculpture, photographic, and painting studios. Graphic Design presents a wide variety of print-based and web-based projects that explore branding and communication. Media Arts stages an exciting range of explorations using media technologies to offer audience members new experiences of interactive, 3D and 4D environments.
This showcase event is the result of the commitment and effort of our graduating students and the staff that support them. Showcasing the full scope of their abilities, and skills, the students have worked together across the three disciplines, not only to make the work, but to undertake a range of fundraising activities including the very successful 2017 fundraising Art Auction; sharing responsibilities for designing the website and promotional materials; and taking responsibility for catering and event management of the opening.
SCOPE is representative of the strong commitment and intense focus needed to successfully complete degrees in the creative arts at UOW. In developing their individual practices and building relationships with their peers, these students are grow their capacities to become future leaders in their fields. This graduate exhibition is a significant occasion marking the students’ transition from undergraduate studies to deploying their practical, conceptual, creative and technical abilities in the real world.
The School of the Arts, English and Media congratulates the students on their accomplishments to date, and anticipates their future achievements. We hope that you will join us at this enriching and thought-provoking event!
