Solaiman has over 26 years of legal teaching and research experience at the university level both in Australia and overseas. He started teaching as a Lecturer in Law in 1990 at Islamic University, Bangladesh, where he was gradually promoted to the position of Professor of Law in recognition of his academic attainments. He also worked at American International University Bangladesh as Professor of Business Law.
He worked in Australia as a Postgraduate Tutor in Law at the University of Western Sydney in 1998 and as a Sessional Lecturer at the University of Wollongong in 2003. Prior to joining this Faculty of Law in January 2005, he was working as a Lecturer in Business Law at the University of the Sunshine Coast, Australia, where he took up the ongoing position in January 2004.
During his tenure at Islamic University, Solaiman acted as Dean of the Faculty of Law & Shariah, Chairman of the Department of Law, and Provost of a Student Dormitory quite apart from his regular academic assignments. By virtue of holding these administrative positions, he served as a member of different key bodies of the University such as Academic Council, Advanced Studies Committee, Admission Committee, Journal Committees and Faculty Committees. He also chaired the Academic Committee and Planning Committee of the Department of Law.
Solaiman’s main areas of research interest are securities regulation, corporate law, criminal law, and food safety law. His doctoral thesis was concerned with investor protection in securities markets. He is a keen researcher, which is evident from his extensive publications of two book chapters, 46 refereed and 5 non-refereed articles in various academic and professional journals in the United States, United Kingdom, Continental Europe, Australia and Asia on diverse areas of law predominantly in the corporate law area. He has also presented 39 papers at various international conferences in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia and Asia. In addition, he has also attended 26 conferences/seminars in different countries including, Germany, Singapore and Australia. Before becoming a legal academic, he worked as a practising lawyer in Bangladesh, a common law jurisdiction.
Solaiman had been a visiting scholar at the School of Law: University of Copenhagen, Denmark; Aalborg University, Denmark; The University of Melbourne, Australia; National University of Singapore, Singapore; Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand; and Free University, Berlin, Germany.
