Ian Buchanan joined the University of Wollongong in 2011.  His previous position was Professor of Critical and Cultural Theory at the Centre for Critical and Cultural Theory at Cardiff University.

Research Profile

Ian Buchanan has published on a wide variety of subjects across a range of disciplines, including literary studies, cultural studies, communications studies and philosophy.  He has published on film, literature, music, space, the internet and war as well a number of other subjects.  He is the author of the Oxford Dictionary of Critical Theory and the founding editor of the international journal Deleuze Studies.  He is also the editor of four book series: Deleuze Connections (EUP), Critical Connections, Plateaus (EUP) and Deleuze Encounters (Continuum).

Potential Topics for HDR & Honours Supervision

I am interested in supervising projects in critical theory and cultural studies.
In critical theory, I have particular expertise in the work of Agamben, Badiou, de Certeau, Deleuze and Guattari, Foucault, Jameson, Lyotard and Zizek.
In cultural studies, I am particularly interested in working on topics relating to the general area of popular culture. I have worked on popular music, popular literature and popular attitudes to war.
