Entry Requirements

Students require a Bachelor degree from a recognised tertiary institution at the prescribed academic standard. Normally a Distinction average is required. This includes students who have fulfilled the requirements of a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of International Studies, Bachelor of Communication & Media Studies and/ or Bachelor of Creative Arts at UOW.

Admission to Honours is by recommendation of the relevant head of discipline, approval by the Honours Coordinator in the Faculty, and acceptance by an academic supervisor.

How to Apply

1. Discuss your proposed Honours thesis topic with appropriate member(s) of academic staff in the Faculty. Use this discussion to clarify the scope of your project and to consider potential supervisors.

2. Complete a 500-word proposal. Your proposal/s should provide details of your research question, the content and process of your research, as well as a justification of the project.

  • BA(Hons), BCMS(Hons), BInSt(Hons) and BPPE(Hons): Make sure you answer the questions in the Honours Thesis Proposal Guide.
  • BCA (Hons): You are required to submit TWO 500-word proposals - one for your scholarly thesis and one for your creative project.

3. Complete an Undergraduate Application form online at www.uow.edu.au/apply. Click the 'Apply Now' button under the 'undergraduate and postgraduate coursework degrees' heading. Alternatively, submit a hard copy form to Student Central.

  • No need to provide your UOW academic record. If you have studied elsewhere - upload scans of certified copies of your transcripts.
  • If you haven't studied at UOW before - proof of your Australian citizenship or permanent residence is required (eg scan and upload certified copies of Birth Certificate or passport photo page).

4. Submit your application and proposal on or before 31 October 2018.

The application process will take approximately 6 weeks and the outcome will be advised by Student Services via email.
